Bunny!

Meet Hali. She's our new furry friend and we all love her (except Rob, he tolerates her). She is a mini holland lop and we hope she lives ten years! She loves dandelion leaves, hiding under the couch, and pooping where she isn't supposed to. She hates having her nails trimmed.

Nova Wind, Part II

I started writing this post several months ago. I wanted I update you on the magical and wonderful world in Silas's mind. A lot has happened in our "real" lives since I began this post, and this translates into a lot happening in Nova Wind. We have realized that Silas uses Nova Wind to try and figure out how to communicate some of his emotions with us.

The King of Nova Wind has died. He was a very old man, but he died because he ate an electric whip. He thought it was a snake and liked eating snakes so he ate it by mistake and died.  The Smurfs have invaded and they are the new leaders. The Smurf King used to be married but he decided he didn't like his wife so he got a divorce. Soon there will be another King because the Smurf King isn't very nice and the Nova Windians want to get a different guy. Maybe the princess will be the Queen and they won't have any King at all.

All the people in Nova Wind are babies on some days. They are very silly and can't do anything all by thereselves. The princess is never a baby, because she has a baby in her tummy and babies can't have a baby in their tummy. Actually, she has two babies. Twins. One is a boy and one is a girl. The girls name is going to be Karen but she hasn't picked a name for her boy baby yet.

Do you know how there can be magic in Nova Wind? Under the ground beside the castle, if you dig down deep, there is a blue star. If you dig down and reach the star, all you have to do is touch some of the blueness and then you have magic. The star is giant so there is a lot of magic. Enough magic for the whole world, but first, you have to find the blue star.

The castle in Nova Wind has solar panels, to save energy. You'd think that would be a complicated retrofit but the Castle was only built three years ago, so they were installed new. They also recycle and compost in Nova Wind. They have so much compost you can't even believe it, but it's not even smelly. (Told you there was magic.)

One favourite pastime for many Nova Windians is fishing. They do not fish in the mote that surrounds the castle (because it is full of alligators) but they do fish in the nearby ocean. There is also a lake, but there isn't any good fish in the lake. Another good thing to do here is go SCUBA diving. They have a lot of water and sand and it is never winter so it's a good place to learn how. But you have to be 16 and have a special license, and if you are not 16 or don't have a special license, I guess you can just go snorkling. It's almost as good.

With there being no rules in Nova Wind, you can imagine it gets crazy sometimes. Good thing all the Nova Windians are well behaved (most of the time) or else they would need police. But they don't. Nope, no police.

Nova Wind is an island. In Britain. It is a circle. There is a nearby island that is a sqare and it is called Jamma Lamma Land. Pin Land is also nearby- it is in the shape of a triangle. They have volcanoes and lots and lots of sand.

In June, there was a volcano that killed everyone in Nova Wind. It was a very sad and dark day in this land and nothing was going to be okay, ever again.

Then, the next day we learned that the King survived. He swam to Jamma Lamma Land and he is the only survivor. Oh actually, he is from Jamma Lamma Land but he will be a good new King for Nova Wind.

The King has rebuilt his kingdom. There are many new things in Nova Wind but mostly it is the same. The King from Jamma Lamma Land speaks Spanish and eats only rum and nachos.

The new and improved Nova Wind is made entirely of jello. No wait! Jello and bouncy castles. So you can bounce everywhere and eat to get through the walls.

Stay tuned for more tales from afar.

Photo Reel of Summer Fun

I'm back

Okay. I'm back. That was a long break but I'm not going to apologize. I don't know how best to recap the last several months so I will try to write a highlight post later today and then move on. Lots has happened, and a hihglight post is pretty overwhelming but I will do my best.

See you later.

2km Race

Recently, Silas ran in his first mini marathon. He paced out at 9km an hour and finished the 2km in just under 12 mins. The only time he showed any anxiety was when a strange woman moved to place his medal over his head. We are very proud of our active boy and hope we he stays interested in fitness for life. After his nap later this day he told me, "Mom, this was the best day ever." I asked him why and he answered, "because everything that happened today was awesome!"

Pre-run breakfast (blueberry pancakes and bacon!)

Watching and waiting!

Runners are coming in!

We are proud of our boy! Showing us his medal and his two thumbs up!

A new bike!

Frenectomy

Silas had his tongue clipped! I don't have a "before" of him sticking out his tongue but it didn't really stick out past his bottom teeth. The ENT suggested it may not help his speech (which is fine) but it would help mechanical things, such as licking and kissing. He went to the dentist recently and she was glad to see he had it clipped because people with short frenulums often have more cavities because they can't clean their teeth with their tongue. All in all, a good decision.

It was traumatizing for him though. He freaked on the table and tried to run away so we ended up wrapping him in a blanket and holding him down. It bled for a few hours but he was fine the next day, except hesitant to talk about it. The days after, someone said to him, "Silas you must have been SO BRAVE!" He replied, "No, I wasn't. I cried and lot and tried to run away."

He is over it now, and shows everyone we know his longer tongue and talks about how much nicer it is now that it's clipped.

Frenulum, before and after!

Sticking out!

Easter Hunt 2015 (on April 6)

Chocolate bunnies are VERY exciting.
Philip was uber cranky and did not participate in the hunt.

Construction Legos? Awesome.

Come back soon

Apparently I've been negligent in the blog department. This happens every so often and I usually apologize but I'm not going to this time. It's been crazy around here and it's okay if I miss a month or so on the blog.

I will be writing a few updates to publish in the next few days so check back soon for a new post! But you probably know everything anyway ;).
