Auntie Kaylyn and Cousin Caleb

My sister and her boy came to see us recently and it was so good to have them. We really missed her husband Jonnie but he was away for work. Our boys love babies and it turns out Caleb loves them too! He is such a happy guy- he is a lot of fun to be around. As usual, the visit was much too short but we made the most of it! And we are counting down until our next visitors...only six weeks to go!

Big smiles!

Cute noises and Check Up

Ezra and Silas are loving that Philip is starting to say many baby words. Every time one of them hears him they stop what they're doing and say, "Oh that was a cute noise!" Or "Did you hear that cute noise mom?". I love that they love him.

Yesterday morning Philip was chatty and my phone was handy so I took a video for those of you who cannot experience it yourselves. And now you can experience it again and again :).

Philip had his two month check up today and he took his shots well- he barely cried. He was born early but developmentally he's right on track with his birthday not due date. Doctor thinks he's doing great and was pleasantly surprised by his weight!

Height 55cm/21.6"/15th percentile
Weight 4.05kg/8lb 8oz/ 2nd percentile
Head 37.6cm/15"/ 30th percentile

We also don't have to go back to the doctor until he's three months! A whole month off from appointments!

Also he's been nursing terrible on one side and it's causing me a lot of pain again. The doctor gave me some advice and I will try that for a week or so but there's a big part of me that's ready to be done. I've worked harder at this than most people and it's still not going awesome. It can't possibly be quitting if I've suffered so much for so long. And seriously, other than the eating issues he is the easiest baby ever.

Toilet trained

Did I mention Silas is potty trained?

Yeah- he did that himself.

I was sure he'd be even harder than Ezra because he is so stubborn but I think that actually made him easier. He wanted it. He basically trained himself.

It took three days. He called me his peeing and pooping teacher. He wanted to wear underwear for a long time and I wouldn't let him because I couldn't help him go with my recovery and a newborn. Poor Philip sure suffered in those three days with me throwing him off me so suddenly at times.

Silas still needs some reminders and help and such but he hasn't had an accident in...two weeks? Three maybe? I can't remember. He's even almost night trained- he wakes up about once a week with a wet bed.

Only one kid in diapers- yessssssss. Five years down, three to go. For now.

Comment!

I really love comments and I think you should all get in the habit of saying something on here once in a while.

I'm going to print it and keep it forever you know. So no pressure. Haha.

Seriously though, I write this blog for myself AND you. Tell me you're here. Tell me what you're thinking.

Please.

2 Months Old!

And a whopping 8lb, 5oz!! Way to go baby! He also no longer nurses with the nipple shield (win!) and drinks about 15oz total per day of formula. He is sleeping as good as ever and has been very smiley as of late. Also, he hasn't rolled in about 10 days...so I guess I was right about forgetting that skill. (Or maybe he just can't get his fat self over!)

We saw our pediatrician for the last time today. She was a pleasure. She was kind and reassuring and very helpful. My favourite part about her was how down to earth and straight forward she was with me. My kind of lady. She also said some very nice things about me and my mothering abilities so that didn't hurt my opinion of her either ;).

Skating

Because we are good Canadians we took our boys to the outdoor rink. Free skates and helmets for all, with photo ID for collateral. Ezra loved it and Silas thought it was too hard. Silas lasted 10 mins and Ezra lasted about 15min. Rob stayed off the ice with a sleeping Philip in the stroller. We hope to be able to go more often in the future so they can get good! I think I had more fun than they did ;).
Getting used to our new legs.
These supports were awesome.
I don't rightly know what I would have done without those Mighty Red Helpers.
I haven't skated for years but this is not quite how I remember it going...
But it was still fun!
Ezra is immitating some hardcore stretchers.

Silas has Questions

Silas is hysterical. There are many times when I am talking to him and cannot keep a straight face to save my life. Here is a recent conversation:

(Rob is walking out the door after putting the boys to bed)
S: "Daddy! I have question. Will you lay beside me?"

R: "No Silas it's time for you to sleep."

S: "Oh. (Pause). I have 'nother question. Will you lay under my blanket?"

R: "Goodnight Silas..."

S: "Wait Daddy! Wait! I have 'nother question!"

R: "What is it Silas?"

S: "Will you come lay here on this pillow?"

(At least those were all actual questions!)

Update on Pip

Philip was weighed on Thursday and he was all the way up to 6/13. Such a difference between my GP's scale and the pediatrician's. Anyway, we have now decided to supplement with formula instead of breast milk, largely because I am no longer pumping and we are out of breast milk. He loves the formula. I am happy because he is doing well. He takes the bottle very well (and is even getting faster!) and sleeps like a boss. Our new routine looks like this:
7am wake up, breast feed both sides for approx 20 mins, bottle feed a few ounces.
10am breast feed both sides 15-20 mins per side, bottle a few ounces then nap for a few hours.
1-2pm wake up, breast feed both sides, bottle a few ounces
4-5pm breast feed both sides 15-20 mins per side, bottle several ounces
7-8pm breast feed both sides 15-20 mins per side, bottle several ounces, go to sleep by 9-9:30
4-4:30am bottle feed 3-4 ounces
7am start over!

Really not so bad for a tiny baby. Maybe it'll even stay this way for a while ;).
